What is the optimal heart rate when working out?

well this depends on if you want to burn calories or are you doing it for cardio?..doing it for cardio reasons would mean a slightly higher heart rate then for burning calories..also it would depend on your age and weight..if you go to a gym get on a stair master or a tread mill,it would calculate the currect heat rate for you and even gives you a scale to determine for cardio and calories (fat burn)

What is the optimal heart rate when working out?

60 - 80% of your theoretical maximum heartrate, which is 220 - your age.

Kind of arbitrary, but a good guideline. You should workout hard enough that you can%26#039;t carry on a conversation while you do it.
