After exercising for 30 minutes my heart rate was 112 bpm. I am 47, weigh 135. Is this good?

To make sure you%26#039;re getting the workout level you want there is a formula you can use to find your target heart rate:

220 - your age = #. ====%26gt; # * 60 to 80 % = Target Heart Rate.

For you, it is:

220 - 47 = 173 =====%26gt; 173 * .80 = 138 bpm (using max of 80%)

There are other ways to find your target heart rate, having to do with finding your resting heart rate...I%26#039;ll link to one below. There is also an easy non-math way to decide if you%26#039;re working out hard enough: can you talk while you%26#039;re exercising or are you out of breath and struggling? If you can talk while you%26#039;re exercising, but are still breathing harder than usual, you%26#039;re probably fine.

Just a note: I don%26#039;t know if you have any health problems or other things that may have an affect on these numbers...they are assuming you are in good health. See a doctor, nutritionist or physical trainer for specific to your case information.

Whatever the case, you%26#039;re excercising so you rock! Keep it up!

It%26#039;s not bad, but to really get the benefit of the workout if this is during cardio, i would push it to at least 130

My heard usually tops off at 160 when i really push it. I think your case is normal.

I%26#039;m 21 and probably out of shape. Maybe 160 is bad?

It%26#039;s kind of low, but whether it%26#039;s too low depends on your goal and fitness level.

One basic formula for whether cardio-pulmonary workout has been hard enough is to take 220 and subtract your age, then multiple by anything from .65 (sedentary, overweight) to .85 (extremely fit, quite athletic). Don%26#039;t go higher without clearing it with your doctor.

That%26#039;s the target heart rate for cardio workout. A person of average fitness might use .75 as their factor.

220 - 47 = 173

173 x. 65 = 112

173 x .75 = 130

173 x .85 = 147

While I can%26#039;t guess your fitness level, your weight suggests you%26#039;re hardly obese, so maybe you want to work a bit harder and get your heart rate out of the range suggested for the unfit, sedentary, and/or overweight person.

Depending on what exercise you%26#039;re doing, adding arm movement, increasing speed, or exaggerating movement might be all it takes.

I%26#039;m 41 yrs old, at 160, you are really going hard, like with running. 140 is good, so I%26#039;d push myself a bit, but not so much that you dread working out. I%26#039;d aim for small increments, like for 1 minute, I%26#039;m going to push myself to 140. Next week, try 5 minutes, whatever works for you. When I run, I start at 5%26#039;6, then I increase to 5.7, 5.8, etc. I may increase every mile at first, then every .75 of a mile, then every .70. Its what works for me. I%26#039;ve found that if I start at 6 miles an hour, I%26#039;m over training and I quit running, so push yourself a little, but not too much.
