How have you slowed the heart rate with atenolol, lopresor, topol etc?

It would take a long time to explain the pharmacology of these drugs. They are a class of medications called beta blockers. They act on the beta adrenergic receptors in the circulatory system. (which is part of the sympathetic or involuntary nervous system) This causes a slowed conduction of the electrical impulses of the heart, and a relaxation of the diameter of the arteries, thus lowering blood pressure.

As blood pressure medications, they are okay, but can have some serious side effects, especially in the elderly.

atenolol (Tenormin), metoprolol (Lopressor, Toprol XL), propranolol (Inderal) are some of the B-blocking agents which lower blood pressure by slowing the heart rate.
