Question about fetal heart rate and what it means....?

I had an ultrasound today. They say I am 5 weeks and 6 days pregnant - 6 weeks tomorrow.

I was able to see and hear the heartbeat - but she said it was low 93 and they like it to be 120 or so.

Is 93 normal for how far along I am? Anyone else have the heartbeat low at first then go up to normal an end up just fine?

My husband thinks that they are being alarmists and need to valdate their presence by scaring me and getting me to come back for more tests. More tests = more money for them. They want me to come back next week for another ultrasound - which will be my 3rd and by then I%26#039;ll be 7 weeks.

Any thoughts?

i am also in the same boat as you. I went for an ultrasound on monday and they told me that instead of being 7 weeks the baby was size of 5 1/2 weeks (this could be becuase dates were out) and that the heartrate was a little slow. I am kicking myself now for not asking the exact heartrate and so i can%26#039;t compare it to your baby%26#039;s. But they said that the heartrate was a bit slow and so I am also going for another ultrasound next week. There is no way that I wouldn%26#039;t go next week and I think you sound like you want to go but your husband is giving you doubts. I have done research on internet and it seems that in some cases the heartrate gets quicker (if it is v early in pregnancy sometimes it can just sort itself out for the best) but in some cases it just stops. I hope that you and I both get good news next week when we go back for another ultrasound.

Wow, I%26#039;m not sure about this one. What did the doctor say? When my son was 7 weeks old his heart rate was 177. They said it%26#039;s usually fast in the beginning of pregnancy, but I think yours is a bit low. They say any where from 120-180 in pregnancy is good. Was there a reason they told you for it being so low?

I don%26#039;t think they are being alarmists. That does not sound normal and so what if they want more test that equal *more money*? They are trying to protect the well being of your unborn child. Go back for the tests because that number is very low.

I%26#039;m sorry, but the physicians are correct here. A fetal heart rate below 145 or so at 5 weeks pregnant is not a good sign and leaves you at high risk for miscarriage.

Its weird that your husband thinks this might be a ploy to scare you and do more expensive tests? Maybe he is in denial? You will want to keep a close eye on the fetus to see if things improve. You should definitely go to the next ultrasound appointment.

I only had one early ultrasound -- at 7 weeks also -- and it showed a fetal heartrate of about 160 or so. Because this was considered good, I didn%26#039;t have any more ultrasounds until my 20-week appoinment.

93 seems low. My daughters heartrate is baseline 145, it flucuates but not that low. I wouldnt play around with what the doctor says, if you trust your doctor go with whatever he/she needs you to do.

Actually its not normal, generally when you%26#039;re not far along the baby%26#039;s heartbeat is very fast. Up in the 150s for the first couple weeks and by the end it normally goes down to the 120s. Definatly go in for that ultrasound, if the heartbeat is still slower than the like they%26#039;ll check out the heart for any abnormalities.

If they don%26#039;t find anything then you should be able to relax a bit and hey you get a couple of extra ultrasounds out of it. Thats always nice. Maybe eat something before going in. If you hadn%26#039;t had anything for awhile then it would be normal for the baby%26#039;s heart beat to be slower. Still not that slow.

That is very low for that age. At 6 weeks my baby was about 140, now at 14.5 weeks it is 152. I would definitely go back to check it out. I don%26#039;t think that the tech is trying to validate their existance.... There are plenty of pregnant women out there, I%26#039;m sure they don%26#039;t just need extra money.
