the countdown method:
by going by the big squares..memorise this sequence:300,150,100,75,50
1500 method:
1500 small swuares represent 1 minute. count the small squares between indentical points on 2 consecutive P waves. then divide 1500 by that number to get the atrial rate. to get the ventricular rate use the same mothod with 2 consecutive R waves.
count the number of big squares between 2 consecutive R waves...then divide 300 by that number.
if the rhythm is irregular, use the 10-time method:
get a 6 second strip (15 big squares= 3 sec), count the number of P waves for atrial rate, or R waves for ventricular rate, ultiply by 10.
